I suggest that the best thing you could read today would be Nicholas Kristof’s piece in the New York Times on the Dalai Lama and China. All that I will do is explain why I’m suggesting that.
To go five miles up into the big picture, we human beings as a species are in our spiritual adolescence. That’s why war and human rights violations proliferate around the world, as well as the reckless fossil fuel consumption that drives global warming. We humans are technologically advanced, but have not developed the maturity or wisdom to handle our knowledge and resources well.
While that’s true for humans in general, it’s not true of the Dalai Lama, one of the world’s greatest spiritual leaders and moral authorities, or Nicholas Kristof, the rare journalist who explores solutions to problems in the world, rather than just observing and describing those problems.
Spiritual wisdom and the solutions to global problems that flow from it are what I seek in the diamond-cut-life, and that’s why I recommend reading Mr. Kristof’s piece on the Dalai Lama.
