Looking Ahead: Dancing & Singing On My 50th

July 30th, 2009 by Alison · 3 Comments · community, entertainment

What are you doing on Saturday night, November 13, 2010? (OK, so I like to plan ahead a little.) I know what I’m doing: celebrating my 50th birthday with a song and dance performance and dinner party with and for my community. If you’re among my friends and family, please put this on your calendar.

Maybe you didn’t know I love to sing, dance and entertain people. It’s true; I do. I’ve been dancing and singing in various ways throughout most of my life. Perhaps the best night of my life was my 40th birthday in November 2000, when about 60 friends and family joined me at Edgefield for a concert party. I hired a band to back me up, and a dance/comedy partner, and while my performance certainly wasn’t flawless, I had a blast, and I think we all did. I involved the audience in every way I could, and the concert party was an exercise for me in community-building as well as a chance to perform.

So, now I’m looking for both a voice/performance coach and a dance coach/partner to work with in the time leading up to my 50th. If you’re responding to one of my two Craigslist ads, would you please take a few minutes to glance around my blog and get a sense of  my values and the diamond-cut life. Then would you please send me an email at alison.wiley@comcast.net, telling me your experience and why this particular project interests you> Please put Diamond-Cut in the subject line since I want to know you’ve read this and, like most people, I’m on email overload, and need a way to organize my mailbox.

Here’s to community-building, the joyful vitality of practicing the arts , and embracing whatever age we are.

Wow! I wish we lived closer. This sounds like such a great idea for a birthday. Good for you for preparing in advance. Sounds like it’s going to be quite a show and celebration. You’ll have to take video and/or pics and share!

Sandy, I wish we lived closer, too. You and your husband and three year old daughter would be a joy to have in my live-in-person community. Thanks for the moral support, and yes I’ll be getting someone to handle video and photos that I’ll then post.

    What a wonderful celebration !

Our age, our present struggle needs an anthem.

There are now, and will be more heroic acts, more suffering, new bravery, and discovered passion. The epic poems are congealing, the rhythms stirring – song rises.

Oh please record and post all that you can.
