Happy Earth Day & How To Find A Green Job

By Tuesday, April 22, 2014 16 0

Green-collar jobs like those in wind energy are crucial for addressing climate change.

Happy Earth Day! The party is at Thor’s and my house this Sunday.

Are you interested in finding green work you can love? Are you here in the Portland Oregon area — or can you be here by this Sunday? Would you like advice and encouragement from Portlanders working in energy efficiency, transportation options and resource conservation? Special appearance by the builder of the nation’s largest renewable energy program (that would be my husband Thor Hinckley — I am so proud of him).

“Right Livelihood” salon and potluck dinner is this Sunday April 27 at 4 p.m. at our home in the Mt. Tabor neighborhood of SE Portland. Leave a comment if you’d like to attend.

I wish I could be there, but living in the Chicago area keeps it from happening. I do also wish I could find a creative job that wasn’t about building a business, and more about sustainability for our dear Earth. One day, I’m sure it will happen.

I wish we could be there on Sunday — next salon, hopefully — but since we have a get-together a day or so before, maybe we can have a mini-salon discussion of our own. Earth Day should be acknowledged every day, and you and Thor are great examples of doing just that.

    Alison and Thor,
Count me in. I plan to be there Sunday.

As Toastmaster for yesterday’s meeting of the EcoVoices club of toastmasters, I devoted the meeting to Earth Day and to stewardship of our home. It went well. We will have much to talk about Sunday.

    Alison,

I’m friends with both Deepak and Ursala Garbrecht (Tatvam Asi on Facebook) which is how I found out about this event. I’d be interested in attending this networking event since I’m already actively networking being a recent college graduate seeking employment. As I have no car I would have to take public transit. Does that pose any issues?

I look forward to hearing from you soon!

Perfect — we are on Trimet line #4, which has frequent service. I sent you the event details via LinkedIn. Eager to meet you.

Vicki Lind told us about your salon. My husband, Robin, and I would love to attend. Is it OK if we come a bit late, after 4:30?

    Thanks.

We’ve turned everything off and lit candles on Earth day for the last few years. It’s a great time for family and a good way to disconnect from our gadgets. Somehow we missed the the day this year but we will be making up for it later this week. Hope you had a great day.

Debra, What a great way to build your children’s connection to the planet that their lives depend on (that all our lives depend on). Very cool.
